Role Play

New Page 1

So, on my 3 hour drive after work to pick up my son from his grandmother's (the freeway was shut down in one direction due to a horrible accident and I made the unfortunate choice of trying to avoid the rubber necking by taking an alternate route) I started thinking about the roles I have played on stage. These are just character types listed below and not the names or the productions. Its a pretty varied list.

A smiling cat
A frantic rabbit
An Arabian Princess
A royal page
A frantic elf who is Santa's business manager
An overeager newbie Czechoslovakian communist
An atheist Jew engaged to a Catholic
The serious sister of a crazed murderer in 1950's England
A crotchety 1950's English housekeeper who is murdered
The daughter of a preacher engaged to the nephew of murderous elderly aunts
The daughter of a prominent military man in Victorian England
The husband hunting owner of a hat shop in turn of the century New York
A blind victim of rape
A foul mouthed, SEVERELY type A, wealthy quantum physicist who invents time travel
A neurotic mother and wife of a hefty business man with weird friends
A Russian Jewish immigrant in turn of the century Texas

And those are just the roles I can remember off of the top of my head. There are others, not to mention a sixteenth century noble woman. So all in all I think its a pretty diverse acting resume and I have had loads of fun playing all of them.

Useless Trivia du Jour: Agatha Christie's stage play The Mousetrap holds the record for the longest run ever in London, opening at the Ambassadors Theatre on November 25, 1952, and as of 2006 is still running after more than 20,000 performances.
